Simple endgame position

实战经验让我们知道,双兵(卒)可守和士象全再加一炮。要留意将帅不受牵制,以免炮方白吃一兵(卒)。

We know that many good chess players in the West wanted to learn the game of Xiangqi and improve on it. That is why from time to time we post some very basic games or very simple endgame positions.

Naturally one may ask : how basic is the basic ? That is the question.

Today let's look at the general Xiangqi knowledge that Cannon plus a full set of Guards and Bishops will not be able to win against two Pawns which have crossed the Channel (River) and linked with one another.

As an illustration, suppose :

a draw !

For the defenders, two vital points to observe are: (1) not to un-link the Pawns unless absolutely necessary, (2) avoid the possibility of Red's Cannon capturing one of the Pawns when the other Pawn is pinned down by the King ! (this usually happens when both Kings are on the same file.)
