A game played in E Mei 1995

Today we would like to present a tournament game of Grandmaster Lu Qin versus Grandmaster Hu Ronghua, played in the National Team Championships, on the 6th of May 1995, the venue was at E Mei, Sichuan province. The championships was won by Locomotive, followed by Guangdong, Harbin, fourth position was Shanghai.

It was an Angel's Guidance Opening, Lu Qin tested his opponent with a 7th Pawn move. Hu Ronghua replied with a Cannon behind the Pawn's move, a strong counter attacking move in appearance, to say the least, as this threatening Red's backrank Bishop indirectly.

6. ... R4+4, Black by sacrificing the Central Pawn, was trying to quickly develop his pieces.

15. ... G5-6, at this stage, Red is one Pawn up, while threatening Black's 7th file Pawn.

22. R8=3, an attacking as well as a defensive move.

A model way of playing the game.

I hope to present some other attractive and high calibre games from time to time, for the benefit of all students and lovers of the game, including of course myself. By the way, why not send me and share your favourite games too?
