Endgame study : Knight versus Pawn (before crossing River)

Can the Knight stop the Pawn crossing the River in time? Once the Pawn crossed the River, its safety is more or less assured.

We are going to present three variations on the same theme.

Variation 1 :









Black is stalemated.


Variation 2 :









Attacking both King and Pawn.


Variation 3 :









Forcing Black to give up its Pawn.
